Allergy drugs undergo phase II trials |
|
Two sets of phase II trials of a new drug designed to treat people with allergic diseases have been launched.
Cytos Biotechnology said it had launched trials to examine the safety, tolerability and efficacy of Immunodrug CYT003-QbG10 when used to treat people suffering from allergic rhinoconjunctivitis.
The first study will look at the effect of increasing doses of CYT003-QbG10 when used by itself to treat 64 patients with forms of the condition caused by dust mites or cats, compared with the results of a control group taking a placebo.
Trial two will have 100 subjects who have dust mite allergies and compare the performance of a "specific immunotherapy combining allergen extract of house dust mites with CYT003-QbG10" and that of a placebo, the firm announced.
According to the World Allergy Organisation, allergic conjunctivitis is a condition which causes the membrane covering the inner eyelid to be inflamed and in serious cases can damage sight.
