Two trials for dental painkiller launch

Two separate clinical trials of a new dental analgesic have begun at a research facility in Peru, it has been revealed.

Drug maker NeuroDiscovery said it had enrolled the first patients for its phase II tests of NSL-101 at the Peruvian University of Cayetana Heredia in Lima, with the drug being evaluated for its effectiveness when used to treat two different dental problems.

In one arm of the study, the painkilling effect of the drug on patients having their wisdom teeth removed will be examined, with a control group receiving a placebo pill.

The second part of the study will be comprised of those undergoing scaling and root planning treatment to stop the spread of gum disease periodontitis, a condition which can destroy the tissue and bone supporting the teeth.

A control group of patients in this arm of the study will be given a drug usually prescribed during treatment.

Masters, a global healthcare solutions provider, can help researchers secure an adequate supply of comparator drugs for phase II and III trials through its clinical trial supply division.ADNFCR-1276-ID-18374881-ADNFCR
