Inflammatory diseases drug set for new trials

Two sets of phase II trials on a new drug designed to help ease the symptoms of inflammatory diseases are to be launched in 2008, it has been revealed.

Arana Therapeutics said that its ART621 drug would be tested to identify how it affects patients with the skin condition psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.

MS drug undergoes new phase III trials

New phase III trials of a drug designed to ease spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis (MS) have been launched.

Drug maker GW Pharmaceuticals said that Sativex was undergoing the trials following feedback from European regulators, with the new trial focusing on how the drug affects people who respond to it.

Shingles pain drug begins phase II trials

Phase II trials of a drug designed to assess how effective it is at treating postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) have been launched.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals revealed that its drug retigabine, which is already being tested as a complementary treatment for partial-onset seizures, is to be examined in a trial of 180 patients who have PHN, a complication of the skin condition shingles.

Allergy drugs undergo phase II trials

Two sets of phase II trials of a new drug designed to treat people with allergic diseases have been launched.

Cytos Biotechnology said it had launched trials to examine the safety, tolerability and efficacy of Immunodrug CYT003-QbG10 when used to treat people suffering from allergic rhinoconjunctivitis.
